Breakfast Smoothie – A Perfect Meal Replacement

Grabbing a doughnut, a bagel or only a cup of coffee on the way out of the house in the morning is the familiar picture in most modern families. Who has the time to prepare a hot meal, cook pancakes or even mix a fruit salad? But, starting the day without proper nutrients and energy invites problems: you will run out of energy before lunch time, feel sleepy and hungry and likely go for an easy snack such as a chocolate bar or a soda. If you wait for the lunch time with almost nothing for breakfast, you will probably over-eat and then again get sleepy and without energy. The way to break this destructive cycle is to come up with an easy, nutritious breakfast replacement. The solution is in your mixer: get yourself a nice smoothie. Chop your fruits and veggies in the evening, freeze them and they are ready for a breakfast that will be ready in a few minutes only.

What to put in your smoothie

Smoothies are summer favorites, and starting your day with a refreshing cold drink makes a lot of sense. What goes in it is up to you, but make sure that you include all your body requires: protein, carbs and fat.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are your first source of energy in the morning. They will wake you up and get you going. Try to get most of your carbs from sweet fruits like apples, bananas and pineapples, but all fruits contain sugar, as well as vitamins and minerals. Be generous with berries, they are nutrition powerhouses. Fruits will also determine how sweet your smoothie is, so if you feel that it is not sweet enough, do not go for a sugar, just add some more pineapples or apricots.

Protein

While carbs give you instant energy, they burn fast. Protein will give you longer lasting energy and will keep you from getting hungry until the next meal. Natural source of protein for smoothies are low fat milk, soy milk, yoghurt and eggs.

Fats

Fats will provide that reserve you might need around ten o”clock so that you do not go for a soda. Milk, soy milk, avocados, peanut butter and all sorts of nuts are excellent addition to your smoothie, they are rich in good fats and will make your smoothie filling and satisfying until lunchtime.

Green smoothie craze

Green smoothies will give you an excellent way to consume larger quantity of healthy greens
