How to Control the Humidity in Your Bedroom

One of the worst feelings in the world is not being able to control the feel of the air in your bedroom. There really is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night because its either too hot or too cold. Waking up in the middle of the night sweating, or freezing to death is nothing I would wish on anyone.

So being able to control the climate in your bedroom might seem trivial, but its actually something that is very important in promoting a good night’s sleep. Being too hot or too cold in your bedroom can lead to sickness or even allergies.

In the summer we mainly deal with air that has too much moisture in it.  Running an air conditioner will reduce the humidity in the air, removing excess moisture.  Over humid air can cause allergies to ignite causing problems that last well after you leave your house.  If you have a house with lots of excess humidity a dehumidifier can help keep your environment in check.  A dehumidifier can help to control any allergy symptoms you may have.

Not enough moisture in the air can also cause problems.  In the winter we run our furnaces to keep us warm but this can greatly dry out the air you breathe.  It is good to have some moisture in the air to help you breathe easier and avoid drying sinuses, nose bleeds and chapped lips.

Its always going to be important to find the right climate for your bedroom.  Most experts will agree that a humidity level between 30% to 50% is ideal for overall health.

Key Points:

  • 1Climate is significant in determining a good night’s sleep; humidity is an important factor.
  • 2Humidifiers boost the air’s moisture in a room, while air conditioners help reduce the humidity.
  • 330-50 percent air humidity is ideal, which you can keep track of with a hygrometer or some humidifiers.

Too little humidity isn’t ideal for sleep either, though. Dry air, most common in the winter or in arid, desert-like climates, can lead to irritated nasal passages, sneezing, stuffy noses, and cracked lips, and may even increase suffering from colds and other viruses.
