Fit Brides Eat This NOT That

As your Bride Fit coach I present you with the best nutrition and fitness suggestions based on science that will result in the Bride Fit body you desire and at the same time give you to information to make the best decisions for your health.   My goal is that your health is thriving and not only look amazing but also you feel energetic, motivated and happy in addition to helping you get fit & fabulous for your big day!   Energy levels and how we feel emotionally are indicators of our health.   Getting ‘wedding dress ready’ is your goal, and choosing the road of nourishing food, effective fitness plans and healthy lifestyle habits and avoiding toxic food and get skinny quick approaches is your best bet for future fertility and longevity.

A helpful fact to remember when choosing foods and diets is that when it comes to the food industry and pharmaceuticals profits always come before people.   Keeping that in mind we can’t depend on what “they” say or what you read on the package.   When scientific discoveries don’t match commercial interests they have a tough time making it to the papers!   Trans fats (an unhealthy substance, made through a chemical process called hydrogenation which solidifies liquid oils and increases the shelf life and the flavor of foods that contain them) is just one example.   Only after European countries ban trans fat did we hear it might be bad for our health in the United States.   It wasn’t till 2013 that the United States declared trans fats to be linked to higher body weight, heart disease and memory loss.   What took America so long?   Denmark banned the sale of products containing trans fats in 2003!   Cigarette smoking and asbestos are other examples.   Considering the history of “profits over people” we can assume that what “they” say is more than likely not based on science but rather based on making money.   What if something you and your family are eating everyday that scientists already know is deadly, I’m sure you’d like to hear about it NOW, not in 30 years.   That’s why I’d like to tell you the truth about vegetable oil.   In the book, Deep Nutrition, Dr. Catherine Shanahan, MD lays out the history and details of why vegetable oils are toxic and have no place in a Bride Fit diet.   I would encourage you to get the book for deeper understanding of this topic and much more!   I’m going to give you the cliff notes on what oils are BAD and what oils are GOOD.

Vegetable oil has managed to work its way into nearly every product we eat every day.   Why would food manufacturers use vegetable oils in place of healthy oils?   The same reasons manufacturers use plastic, it’s easy to manipulate chemically, the public can easily ignore the harmful consequences of eating it because the label implies it’s healthy and it’s cheap!   Avoid eating products or cooking with the following industrialized oils:

  • Canola oil
  • Soy oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Cottonseed oil
  • Corn oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Safflower oil
  • Non-butter spreads (including margarine and the so-called Trans-free spreads)

Beware of these toxic oils hiding in the following “heart healthy,” “low cholesterol,” and “low fat” foods.   When you see those claims on labels think “chemical storm” and walk away!

  • Margarine and spreads
  • Salad dressing
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Nuts (oily nuts, raw or dry roasted are good)
  • French fries
  • Crackers and chips
  • Granola
  • Soft breads, buns, muffins

NOTE:   I can’t emphasis enough to READ the ingredients listed on the label!   You can’t go by how “healthy” the packaging looks.   The marketing is designed that way!   In addition just because it’s “organic” or on the shelves of Whole Foods doesn’t make it healthy.

By the way, you want cholesterol and fat rich foods such as eggs, grass-fed beef and butter in your diet!   Dr. Shanahan makes this point well in her book; “The seductive flavors of fat-rich foods tempt us for good reason.   Unlike sugar-which offer no nutrition-a meal complete with animal fat actually helps us absorb and taste other nutrients.   This is why butter makes other foods taste so delicious.   And because animal fats contain cholesterol-a natural appetite suppressant-they satisfy in a way that little else can.   In contrast, vegetable oils impair vitamin absorption and do little to suppress appetite, so you eat more and get less nutrition.”

Now you have a guideline of what not to eat, here’s the oils and fats that are safe to cook with:

  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Palm oil
  • Bacon fat
  • Butter
  • Peanut
  • Macadamia nut
  • Hazelnut
  • Lard
  • Duck and goose fat

Healthy oils to eat and use for dressings and dips:

  • All the above cooking oils
  • Walnut
  • Flax
  • Sesame
  • Wheat germ oil

I always recommend the highest quality available, look for organic oils rich in color, like grassy green for olive oil.   Butter made from pastured cows is best such as Kerrygold.   I hope this information helps you be the healthiest fit bride possible!   For more tips to get “wedding dress ready” and the secrets to living “healthily & happily ever after” join my on-line program for Exceptional Brides today!   Please contact me for a personalized plan and leave your comments and questions below.   Have an amazing week!
