CBD Hemp Oil and its Benefits

CBD hemp oil is definitely one of the hottest products in the US that are taking the country by storm. In fact, the CBD oil market is expected to grow from around $590 million in 2018 to $22 billion by 2022. A feat that is very much achievable given the growing popularity of CBD oil.

Whether its rising fame is due to intensive promotion or not, we can never tell unless we explore deeper into the root cause of its mounting glory.

What is CBD Hemp Oil?

CBD, a short term for cannabidiol, is one of the many compounds that are found in the cannabis plants. While it may come from the cannabis family, it does not give psychoactive or mind-altering effects. In other words, it does not cause a “high.” The compound that is responsible for giving these effects is called THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the most prevalent compound (or cannabinoid) found in marijuana.

There are different strains of CBD since there are several plants that fall into the cannabis family. Two of the major sources of CBD are hemp and marijuana. In this article, we will focus on the industrial hemp version of CBD or the CBD hemp oil.

Medical Benefits of CBD Hemp Oil

It’s safe to say that the rising popularity of CBD oil is due to its medical benefits. Effective marketing might play a pivotal role but it’s definitely not enough. At the end of the day, consumers will assess the usefulness of a product. If they won’t see or feel the benefits that they are looking for, they will definitely spread the news. It will definitely compromise the positive image of CBD.  But is that what’s happening today? Certainly, not! Hence, we can say that there must be a truth from what we are hearing about this wonder oil, or from what the Internet is feeding us each time we do a quick Google search.

Below are some of the medical benefits of CBD Oil:

  • CBD for Acne
    • Acne is a skin condition that is caused by the obstruction in the hair follicles due to oil and dead skin cells. It affects people of all ages, though it is most common among teenagers.

In a study published by the Journal of Clinical Investigation, it was found out that CBD helps in lowering the production of sebum, an oily substance that causes acne.

  • CBD Hemp Oil for ADHD
    • ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a common neurodevelopmental disorder among children, though it has been known that the condition can last a lifetime.

At present, ADHD is managed with the combination of medications (FDA approved stimulants and non-stimulants) and behavioral therapy. The role of CBD comes in its capacity to reduce anxiety and increase an individual’s ability to focus (which is a major problem in people with ADHD).

There is still a lot to learn about CBD’s role in ADHD, but to those who are tired with the traditional treatment options, it’s definitely a breath of fresh air.

  • CBD for Alzheimer’s Disease
    • Alzheimer is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Although the disease itself shortens one’s life span, it isn’t the direct cause of a person’s death. Instead, people die due to complications, such as blood clots or infections. Other factors that affect the mortality in people with Alzheimer’s disease are old age, falls, and delirium.

In an initial study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, it was found out that CBD was successful in preventing the development of social recognition deficits in the participants. This is the first recorded evidence that CBD may play an important role in delaying the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

  • CBD for Anxiety
    • According to the authors of a review in Neurotherapeutics, CBD may reduce anxiety in people with the following conditions:
      • post-traumatic stress disorder
      • panic disorder
      • social anxiety disorder
      • general anxiety disorder
      • obsessive-compulsive disorder

The authors of the review noted that current treatments for these conditions have side effects that discourage some people to stop taking them.

  • CBD for Arthritis
    • It is estimated that 54 million American adults, and 300,000 children in the United States, suffer from the daily pain and discomfort brought about by arthritis. Current treatments for arthritis have negative side effects, such as heart problem, hair loss, nausea, difficulty of breathing, swelling, increased blood sugar, and more. People are left with no choice but to dive in the treatments or suffer from the pain and other unwanted symptoms every day.

Sativex, a cannabis sativa-derived medication, has shown wonderful results in people with arthritis, including the improvement of pain during movement and while at rest. It follows that the medication also helps in promoting sleep by lowering the levels of pain.

In addition, it’s also believed that CBD may help in preventing or lessening nerve damage in people with arthritis because of its anti-inflammatory effect.

Recent studies proved that CBD may really be a better alternative for several health conditions. With its increasing popularity, more people are becoming curious about its potential in treating and managing several medical problems. For now, we can just hope for the best.
