How To Quit Smoking For Good

Cigarettes should be renamed ” “death sticks” as the amount of harm that they present to the body is incredible. Despite the fact that cigarette smoke is linked to lung, throat and mouth cancer, most people take up smoking and don”t think about quitting until the harmful effects start showing. Remaining an ex-smoker is a very difficult challenge, but by remaining focused, it can be achieved for good.

Decide To Quit For Good:

When you finally make up your mind that you want to quit smoking, make sure that your decision is not a tentative one. If you quit one day, and give in to your cravings after a couple of days, you will never be able to quit for good. Mentally prepare yourself for the consequences that quitting smoking will take a lot of will power and determination and then quit for good.

Try Nicotine Patches and Other Supplements:

You cannot quit smoking abruptly, as this will cause you more harm than good. Try to maintain the nicotine levels in your body before you wean yourself entirely off it by using nicotine patches, gum or other nicotine supplements.

Fight Cravings:

If you want to remain an ex smoker, you will have to fight your cravings for a smoke no matter how down or low you feel. Try to distract yourself whenever a craving for a smoke makes you feel helpless and reaching for another cigarette feels like the only solution. Put on the TV, go for a walk or talk on the phone with a friend.

Avoid The Company Of Smokers For A While:

Hanging out with your buddies at the local bar or pub may be the best way to relax, but if you know that your friends smoke, its best to avoid such gatherings for a while, until you have mastered your urges and cravings. If you know that your friends may be meeting up for a drink, and they insist that you join them, also realize that they will insist that you have one last smoke before you quit for good. If you have already quit, that last smoke will plunge you into a spiral of trying to quit all over again! Until you know that the presence of other smokers will not bother you, try to avoid such social gatherings.
