5 Essential Contact Care Tips

Contact Lenses require maintenance from time to time. There are certain signs your eyes will give you that your contact lenses are not clean or being maintained properly. Dry eyes, irritation or red eyes are clear examples to contact lenses wearers its time to clean them.

The easiest solution is to make sure your hands are as clean as possible. The cleaner the hands the cleaner your contact lenses will be. Besides your hands make sure to use lint free towels and in case of you not being completely sure your hands are clean just clean them again. Few think about the type of water they will use and this is important try to stay away from plain old tap water. Often the water coming out of your sink can contain eye irritating chemicals.

You put your phone in a case but do you put your contacts in a case? Sure it may look clean but is it? To ensure that you are keeping your contacts in a clean case use a good rinsing solution and remember to replace your case every couple of months.

Your next step is looking at the type of solution you are using. There are four different types of solutions to choose from. There is, of course, the always popular contact cleaner that can be used daily or you can also use a saline solution to clean and store your contacts in. For those with soft contact lenses, you can choose to use an enzymatic cleaner which is specifically designed to disinfect contacts. Finally, you can use Hydrogen Peroxide which generally is added to any one of the other cleaners for added benefits.

Many new and seasoned contact wearers often forget one of the easiest and quickest ways to ensure proper care of their lenses. Read the instructions. The manufacturer will add instructions that will often explain what solutions and maintenance procedures you can use to keep your contacts like new. Also only wear contacts when you are using them take them out when you go to bed.

Finally and probably the most important part of proper contact care is making sure your contacts are up to date. Get an eye exam and make sure your contacts are the correct prescription. It is very easy for us to avoid that visit to the eye doctor because we can still see okay. Get your eyes checked and your prescriptions renewed when necessary.

It was great how you pointed out that there are four types of solution that can be sued for contact lenses and that a person has to make surer they choose the right one of the lens they are using, I will be sure to take note of that and mention it to my sister since she plans on getting a pair of contact lenses next month. Since they can be quite pricey, I think it makes sense that she takes good care of them. Thanks!
