How Much Water Should You Really Be Drinking?

Every fitness and nutrition expert has his or her own rule for how much water you need to drink everyday. The most common rule is the “8 by 8” rule, drinking eight glasses of water a day by 8 o’clock. But is there much merit to this theory? HealthStatus breaks this down and explains that getting the correct amount of water in your system everyday might be easier than you think.

According to The Institute of Medicine, men should be consuming 3.7 liters of water per day, which is around 15 cups. For women, they should be consuming around 2.7 liters a day, which is about 11 cups.

That seems like a challenging feat for one single day! But, what many people overlook is that you can consume water in more ways than just one!

Beverages help you reach 80% of your total water intake:

  • Drinking water
  • Juice
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Soda

All of these drinks can keep you hydrated and add to your daily-recommended water consumption. Although, before consuming too much juice or soda, take into consideration the extra calories and sugars that are in these products compared to plain water.

High-water foods give you 20% of your daily water intake:

  • Watermelon
  • Grapefruit
  • Oranges
  • Cucumbers
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli

Adding fresh produce to your diet can help keep your body regulated and gives you the nutrition you need! Stop chugging glass after glass of water and check out your market’s produce section.

Having a healthy, hydrated body is an easy task to accomplish! Drinking plenty of water and beverages and consuming fresh produce can guarantee that you’ll have enough water to stay plenty hydrated throughout the day.
