Hey You, In The Matters of You,
I am always at our amazed at the human races relationship with the words perfect, better, right and great. . . I have a friend who was going to the gym every day. . . He was especially inspired one day and decided to run a marathon.
Planned out his training regimen for 9 months and decided to go to the Boston marathon to make his big statement run. The first day he “only ran” 3 miles and to his mind that was 40% short of his 5 mile target starting number. He now 40, ran in college and thought he would be better off at his start.
My friend hasn’t been to the gym in 3 months now. He quit because he wasn’t perfect even though he was in the process of getting better. He wasn’t exactly right about his own ability and perception of how good his endurance was and this idea of being off from perfect stopped his progress in getting better.
Shame made him give up being better and his need to be perfect is stopping him from being great. You see perfect is not great and great is not perfect. Great is progress. Happiness is progress. Moving forward getting better, healthier, stronger, smarter, wiser or what ever you are working on.
Stop worrying about being perfect and focus on getting better and soon you will find yourself at great.
