Living Light is all about becoming ‘weightless.’ No, I don’t want you to disappear! Instead, I want you to live a life where you don’t constantly obsess over what you weigh or what you can’t eat. The first three letters in the word diet are DIE! Although it may feel like you are dying when you begin changing your eating habits, you will begin to experience life as you feel a sense of control over what you eat.
Weightlessness includes your spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical self. You could be at a weight that is appropriate and still feel ‘heavy,’ burdened by past relationship hurts (emotional), feel like God disapproves of you (spiritual), or feel distracted in your work (mental). You may have identified what weighs you down or maybe you have yet to nail it down, either way weightlessness is when you are free of those burdens.
Jesus said ‘Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me, watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.’ (Matthew 11:28-30 The Message)
Weightlessness is a way of life, not a temporary fix or a 30 day endurance diet. It is not about finding the ‘one’ thing that will fix the problem. Don’t ‘weight’ another day! Begin to experience weightlessness today!
Establish Goals for Yourself
The best way for you to start is to establish goals for yourself. Determine how much weight you want to lose. Consult with a physician, connect with others that may be on this journey of weight loss.
If losing weight is not the starting point for you, but maintaining your weight goal is, you will want to keep in mind that to maintain your weight you need to expel or take off as many calories as you take in over 1200-1500 calories per day (whichever is what you take in). You will want to pick foods or a food plan and an exercise routine that will enable you to establish a routine for yourself.
Meal Plans and Exercise
Meal planning and exercise will help you begin to reach your weight goal. There are many resources for finding new ways to eat and what type of exercise will be best for you.  One idea to keep in mind for both, think about what you can maintain over a long period of time. Fast weight loss just means fast weight gain when you quit the routine! Healthy eating and exercise is a lifetime habit. You can experiment and see what works for your goals.

If you are reading this article, you may have been struggling with weight for a while and are ready to take the next right step. Pick one step listed below that you will begin today. Many times we are overwhelmed with the whole process and then quit before we start. Small steps in the right direction over a long time will change your life.
What are the obstacles you are imagining that keep you from you from Living Light? “If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light”. (Luke 11:36 NLT). As you shine the light on those obstacles, you will be better equipped to overcome them. You won’t keep bumping into things that keep you from your life.
This is not easy but it is worth doing. Your life is worth living well and experiencing the fullness of God instead of the artificial fullness from food. You will experience a lightness from the loss of the weight, as well as the loss of those obstacles, which prevent you from joy on your journey.
Is it time to turn on the light and experience a New Life? When you make Living Light your goal, everything will change for the better!
