Immune System: Fact Vs Fiction

The novel coronavirus known as COVID-19 has changed our world overnight. What many people still don’t understand is the significance of the “novel” part of this virus, which means that no one has ever been exposed to it before and therefore we have no immunity to it. That’s one of the reasons why it is killing so many more people than a typical influenza or another virus we’ve all been exposed to previously. It’s especially deadly to anyone who is immunocompromised because of underlying health conditions such as autoimmune disorders, organ transplants, and more. Our immune systems are our last line of defense, and keeping yours in top shape is the best thing you can do for yourself right now.

Contrary to popular belief, vitamin C isn’t going to keep you safe. You need the right mix of nutrients, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices to keep your immune system functioning at its best. Adequate sleep and water intake are just as important as vitamins and minerals when it comes to your immune system. Staying up to date on vaccinations is also important,   not because the novel coronavirus can be prevented with a flu shot, but because if you get sick it’s important to not also have another illness at the same time. Plus, preventing the medical system from becoming overwhelmed can also protect everyone.
