Artificial Sweeteners May Encourage Fat Production

A new study shows that consuming artificial sweeteners, may lead to an increase in body fat and a decrease in metabolism.
Dr. Sabyasachi Sen and his researchers, conducted an eight participant study, of how sweeteners may slow metabolism and increase body fat. The study tested this hypothesis, by taking samples from eight subjects, half of the group was recorded to be at a healthy weight and the other half were considered obese. Both groups were consumers of artificial sweeteners. By examining a sample of each subject’s abdominal fat, both groups were recorded with an increase of glucose in the fat cells. The obese subjects, also showed a sharp increase in the activity of fat producing genes.  Similar studies, are showing a pattern of metabolic dysfunction in people that regularly use artificial sweeteners.

Humans are consuming more fake sugar currently, than in previous years. The general public is under the impression that these sugar alternatives are safe, even though studies are showing otherwise.

Dr. Sabyachi Sen, whom conducted the fat cell experiment, concludes that his study’s findings prove the hypothesis, that artificial sweetener consumption, may lead to weight gain and diabetes. Dr. Dana Hunes, who is an adjunct professor at UCLA, stated that she would like to conduct a larger study to prove her hypothesis about the negative effects on a body that is consuming sugar substitutes.

Currently the public believes that artificial sweeteners are a healthier option, than consuming sugar. This belief is being proven incorrect by more frequent studies that are seeing detrimental results on subjects that use artificial sugar.

Key Points:

  • 1Scientists believe that artificial sweeteners may cause people to gain weight rather than lose it, especially in those already obese.
  • 2In a test they found that those that consumed artificial sweeteners had increased fat producing cells compared to those who don’t eat artificial sweeteners.
  • 3Artificial sweeteners, based on these tests, may actually cause metabolic dysfunction rather than doing anything to help.

A study unveiled last week concluded that some artificial sweeteners may hinder our metabolism, rather than ramp it up.

Im used on buying fruit drinks on the market and i don't even look into the gram chart or ingredients if it has artificial sweetener or not. Thanks for making me aware about this.
