Step #7 to heal your hormones

Ah, the luxurious activity that we get to do every single day.

A European poll ranked sleep as the #1 most favorite activity – calling it luxurious!

Here in the US though, we feel guilty around sleep. In fact, we’re proud if we can get by on less sleep, because less sleep equals more productivity.

But restorative sleep, i.e. sleep WITHOUT medication, is essential to heal your hormones.

You can survive without food and water for 48 hours, but your health starts to go downhill quickly without sleep in this same time frame.

Inadequate sleep raises inflammation, causes insulin resistance, weight gain, cravings, depression, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, and so much more.

If you deprive yourself of sleep for too long it puts you at much greater risk for diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer.

As you can see, it’s not to be messed around with!

Do you call yourself a night owl, or get a second wind when it’s time to go to bed? If so, your cortisol rhythm may be backwards, meaning you have lower cortisol in the morning when you wake up, and higher cortisol at night when you go to bed.

This is quite common when your hormones are out of balance.

Here are three tips for a better night’s sleep:

  1. Get sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning.
  2. Eat a high protein breakfast within an hour of waking.
  3. Dim the light’s at night, and wear blue light blocking glasses if you’re working on your computer or watching TV after dark. This will help promote melatonin production.

Tomorrow, I’ll share Step #8. You’ll never guess what it is and you’ll be so happy to see it’s one of the 9-Steps.
