Green Coffee Beans – Magic Pill for Weight Loss?

We cannot help it. Any news that offers hope of losing weight without hard work is very attractive. The latest study conducted on 16 healthy volunteers shows that green coffee supplements can help us lose weight without any particular diet and increase in exercise. Can it be real?

Coffee is an interesting plant. It contains almost 1000 active compounds. Caffeine has been researched extensively and we are aware of its power as stimulant and metabolism booster. Almost all weight loss supplements contain caffeine. But, some other important coffee compounds get reduced in roasting. One of them is chlorogenic acid or CGA.

Scientists have been interested in chlorogenic acid for a while. Chlorogenic acid belongs to the important biologically active phenols such as 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA).

CGA is known to have antioxydative properties and can plays important role in protecting healthy cardiovascular system, in the similar way to the diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Scientists now believe that CGA also has an important effect on the glucose absorption and its consequent effect on body weight.

Of all plants rich in CGA, green coffee is known as the biggest source. Unfortunately, green coffee is too bitter to drink and enjoy the way we enjoy it when roasted. The only way to use green coffee is through supplements. So you have a choice: pop another supplement, or enjoy your favorite coffee blend, regardless of its reduced quantity of CGA.

Fertile market of weight loss supplements is quick to take advantage of scientific research, so a number of products on the market contains or green coffee extract or chlorogenic acid, alone or mixed with other ingredients known to boost metabolism or burn fat.   The greatest beneficiaries of these supplements are, of course, the manufacturers. If they are honest, they will mention that their products should be used together with healthy diet and regular exercise.

Scientists are still debating if coffee is good for you or not and the opinions vary from ” Ëœvery good” ™ to ” Ëœvery bad” ™. The truth is, as usual, somewhere in the middle. Are green coffee beans the magic pill you have been waiting for? Get real. The study that had only 16 participants cannot be taken seriously. You cannot drink green coffee, it is too bitter, so if you like your roasted coffee to kick-start your day, go right ahead, you will get some of that chlorogenic acid in the process anyway.
