Caffeine ‘Dosing’ Is Here To Help You Get More Done

Many people are dependent on caffeine for their day to day activities. A study by the US Army was conducted to determine the best way people can consume their caffeine and when is the best time they should consume it. Using a computer algorithm, they evaluated each subject’s sleep patterns and caffeine intake patterns and found a method that could improve their alertness by 64% while still consuming the same amount of caffeine as they typically do. They also found that people could decrease their caffeine consumption by 65% but still feel as equally alert as they normally do when they consume their usual amount of caffeine.    The study, however, admits that there is no one size fits all method that will give people this benefit.

Instead, this study demonstrated that optimal caffeine consumption must be measured based on each individual’s sleep patterns and caffeine intake through their algorithm. The US army is attempting to incorporate the optimal caffeine intake algorithm in a preexisting website called 2B-Alert. They hope that, in the future, using this website will allow people to figure out when is the best time they should take their coffee in the day, as well as how much they should consume for optimal alertness.

Key Points:

  • 1Caffeine in coffee is an often used pick-me-up to boost energy levels throughout the day.
  • 2Using science and math you can optimize your coffee intake for boosting alertness and performance.
  • 3You can reduce your caffeine consumption and still achieve alertness with this new online tool designed by the US Army.

By monitoring an individual’s sleep patterns and caffeine intake, the researchers found they could improve the cognitive benefits of coffee consumption by as much as 64%.
