Spit for Health

There is a balance that exists in everything in life.  It doesn’t matter if we are talking about plants and animals or if we are talking about ourselves, things need to be balanced in order for them to operate properly.  One way that humans are balanced which may surprise you is according to the pH (potential hydrogen) in their body.  If we are too acidic, our body is unhealthy and it is a host to a wide variety of different problems.  If you keep your body alkaline, it is a way to effortlessly take care of your so that you are healthy and physically fit.

Most people are not aware of this delicate balance that exists within each and every one of us.  The fact of the matter is a lot of diseases are caused as a result of an imbalance in our bodies.  Excess acidity can lead to cancer, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, and kidney stones.  People tend to focus on calories and exercise in order to make sure that they are physically fit but unless they are watching their pH balance, they may be working against themselves to one degree or another.  How can we make sure that we are pH balanced so that we can get the most out of our lives and be as healthy as possible?

Your saliva can indicate your pH.  Here is what you do:  go to your local health food store or pharmacy and get some pH paper.  You want graduated pH paper that indicates increments from yellow to blue.  For two hours prior to testing don’t eat, drink or chew gum (water is OK).  Fill your mouth with saliva and swallow, do this a couple of times.  Let some saliva from your mouth drop onto a clean glass or clean plastic dish.  Touch the paper to your saliva.  You do not want to let the paper touch your tongue.

Your pH paper will read:

Yellow — very acidic
Yellow/Green — acidic
Blue – more alkaline
Dark Blue — very alkaline

Test again 15 minutes after eating and see if your pH balance improves from your eating habits.  If you do show improvement that is good, if not you need to change what you are eating.

One of the best ways to make sure that your pH balance is not out of line is by eating the proper foods and drinking the right things.  Anything that we take into our body is going to turn to acid in our system.  What we need to realize is that some of them will turn more acid than others and we need to make sure that we are not introducing too much into our system as to tip the scales in the wrong direction.  The same is also true in the liquid that we drink.  Drinking alkaline water is an excellent way to introduce this alkalinity into our system.  The reverse is true if we spend our time drinking sugary drinks and sodas.

Some alkaline foods are:  cauliflower, peas, spinach, carrots, green beans, celery, cucumbers, broccoli, lemons, limes, avocados, tomatoes, grapefruit, almonds, sunflower seeds, sprouted seeds, olive oil, coconut oil, water, lemon water, herbal teas.  Stay away from sugar, processed foods and limit meats to increase alkalinity.

Having a proper pH balance in our body can help keep us physically fit and helps prevent disease.
