Researchers have recently studied what effects unmarried or widowed persons may experience, including an increased risk of Dementia. It dives into the idea that mental health and emotional happiness are greatly affected by having a partners support, something that unmarried or widowed persons do not have. Social interaction is key in that role of mental health and preserving a healthy state of happiness. Another area that is also important is being physically active. It seems that a combination of all of the above is what is vital to ensure the most healthy and long life possible. It is key to have social interaction in combination with partnership and emotional and social support as well as staying active and physically exercising your body or keeping it as strong as possible. Therefore, many single people do not have the full experience of true partnership and the social and emotional support that a partner would provide daily and all of these factors combined lead researchers to believe that their risk of a mental health decline, notably dementia, is much more increased. If these factors can be reduced then their risk of dementia is much less likely to be as high. Another contributing factor to all of the above is that married people are more financially better off, or more likely to be, so that contributes to a happier life with less stress and the above factors that put those at risk for dementia.
