7 Health Risks Of Sleeping Too Much

Can you get enough of a good thing?  Sleep is good, right?  Most of us aren’t getting enough sleep, but if we are sleeping way too much bad things can happen.  Most adults need between 7 and nine hours of sleep each night to function optimally.

Sleeping Too Much:  

Increased risk for depression.

Older women who slept over the normal amount had a decline in brain function.

Increase risk for Type 2 Diabetes.

Increase in weight.  This affected those getting too little sleep and those getting too much.

Increase risk for coronary artery disease.

Those that sleep too much are at greater risk of dying.

Adequate sleep is important to your health.  Not only can oversleeping be a sign of disease it also can put you at increased risk for problems.  If you find you are sleeping too much see a health professional to make sure there isn’t a medical problem.  If you aren’t getting or can’t get enough sleep this should also be addressed by a health professional.
