How Sleep Deprivation Affects Your Brain

Almost 80% of British people are suffering from a lack of sleep and it is costing them 40 billion a year. The numbers broken down determined that 74% of Brits sleep less than 7 hours a night, and 12% claim to get less than 5 hours. Lack of sleep has been scientifically proven to cause brain cells to eat away at parts of the brain’s synapses. This means that connections in your brain are being broken down.

There was another scientific study down that showed some interesting information. Participants in this study did not get as much sleep as they normally should, and were noticeably more irritated and angry. They were also found to be more stressed when trying to complete simply cognitive tasks. Those who were not sleep deprived had no trouble completing these tasks. The result of this study concluded that people that are sleep deprived release more emotions and are more emotional in general. In fact, even one night without enough sleep can harm certain parts of your brain that work in retaining memories.

There are researchers in Canada that are on the verge of starting one of the biggest sleep studies in history and how it harms your brain. Researches are calling people from all over the world to take part in this study. If everything goes right, they think they will be able to form the perfect number in regards to how much sleep we should get at night.
