When you’re ready to get pregnant, it can be frustrating when your chances of conception won’t cooperate, and that positive pregnancy test eludes you despite repeated attempts with your partner. Ovulation and the regular cycle of ovulation is one source of frustration, especially if there are things that might be disrupting that normal ovulation.
Women normally release an egg from their ovaries every month, and it’s this egg that can be fertilized. Yet there are factors that can affect this process. Stress and sleeplessness are two common problems. High levels of stress can disrupt the normal pattern of ovulation, as the body is flooded with stress hormones that interfere with ovulation. The same problem occurs with chronic sleep deprivation. In both cases, looking for ways to reduce stress and get more sleep, as well as more effective sleep, are critical if you want to get your chances of conception back on track.
Sometimes, however, it could be something more serious than a lifestyle change. There are various medical issues that can interfere with normal ovulation. Malnutrition affects normal ovulation, and can prevent conception. Sometimes rapid weight gain can do the same. And there are even more serious medical issues, such as Perimenopause or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, that could be the problem. If you’ve been trying and it’s not working, talk to your doctor.
Start with the basics if you’re having trouble conceiving; reduce stress and stay rested. #HealthStatus

Key Points:
- 1Hormonal activity is adversely affected by stress, this is particularly true of LH, the leuteinzing hormone.
- 2A lack of sufficient sleep can cause follicle stimulating hormone activity to drop precipitously.
- 3Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can affect the menstrual cycle and a woman’s ability to ovulate.
