When you have a respiratory problem that can and often does lead to difficulty sleeping. People who deal with seasonal allergies or any allergy can compound their problems with lack of sleep. Here are some solutions to try if you are dealing with this problem.
Use a pillow; don’t lie completely flat. This can help nasal passages drain.
Keep pets out of the bedroom and especially off the bed. Pet dander can increase breathing difficulty.
Use dust mite protectors on your pillow and mattress. Wash sheets and blankets once a week at a minimum. Use hot water when you can.
Keep humidity levels down, below 50%. Higher humid conditions contain more pollen and dust in the air.
Use an air conditioner. Your air conditioner can help control humidity and filter your air of some allergens.
Take a shower or bath before bed. You may be carrying allergens on your person. You may even need to wash your hair. Getting into bed clean may help.
Let go of stress. Deep breathing, meditating, reading, or music, whatever works for you. Get yourself in a relaxed state.
