Our lives fall apart without sleep. We all need it to function. But solid and effective sleep isn’t something everyone can explain. What’s good sleep, and what will prevent us from getting it?
First and foremost, we need to keep breathing when we’re sleeping. Oxygen is the one thing we need more than regular and effective sleep. Sleep apnea describes a condition where breathing is interrupted during sleep, and the body rouses itself to resume the airflow. And it’s one of the most common sleeping problems. But another is stress.
Many people with insomnia have it due to stress. And we all have stress, some more than others, and some of us more prone to having problems dealing with it effectively. Worse, sleep deprivation that can be caused by stress can cause more stress, creating a cycle that can become difficult to break free from.
Problems sleeping can lead to serious issues with our physical health. The balance of hormones in our bodies can become altered, which will leave us feeling and actually being significantly off-center from normal. It’s very common to gain weight, which can lead to cardiovascular problems, or even diabetes, as we overeat as a consequence of the sleep deprivation. The immune system becomes compromised. In fact, overall mortality is impacted due to chronic sleep deprivation.
Stress leads to sleeplessness, fatigue causes stress. Snap out of the cycle and feel better. #HealthStatus
