How Fitness Professionals Can Lead By Example – And So Inspire Their Clients

As a fitness professional, your main responsibility is to instruct, educate and train your clients to their own personal needs. There are roughly 189 thousand people in the United Kingdom with an occupation in the sports and fitness sector, so, it’s important you do what you can to stand out from the crowd.

Your clients are more likely to stick with you if you lead by example and follow your own unique rules. Here’s how you can do exactly that to inspire people to improve their fitness…

1.   Exercise by Example

If a person chooses you to train them, they need to know that they can trust you and believe that the exercises you give them are going to pay off. One sure way you can do this is by providing clients with workout that have been tried and tested by yourself. This will show them that you really believe in what you’re teaching them, and that you’re invested in their journey. Inspire them to work hard, not only for themselves, but for you too…

2.   Diet by Example

New diets pop up all the time these days, and it can be difficult for people to distinguish between ones that actually work and ones that are just the ‘latest fad’. Being healthy isn’t just a matter of working out… you also have to eat right too! So, as a fitness professional, you should make sure your clients are doing both. Show them some of your favourite recipes or create a weekly meal plan to show that you support them both inside and outside of the gym.

3.   Make Appropriate Recommendations

If a client is paying you to help them, they trust that you know your stuff and that you will be on hand to give recommendations suitable to their needs. From what you eat to what you wear, you should lead by example and invest in the best quality products for you and your clients.

What you wear is an instant, visible recommendation, and so kitting yourself out with high quality tracksuits like those from Gym King is a sure way to show you know what you’re doing. When it comes to clothing, a good workout outfit can help you feel empowered. If your client feels this way in the clothes you recommended, they’re more likely to be inspired to reach their full potential.

4.   Be a Role Model in the Daily Routine as Well

Apart from good exercise, healthful diet and befitting clothing, there is also another very important aspect where your clients need your guideline as a true fitness professional. This aspect is about how to spend a whole day and night following a perfectly fruitful daily routine. You can lead them by following an ideal daily routine first for yourself and then advise them to do so to get the maximum benefits out of it.

You can make and follow an excellent time-table that should tell you a fix and sufficient time for your daily tasks so that you may spare enough time for your exercise. This time table must include at least eight hours for your sound sleep during the night time. Proper rest and sleep empower both your body and mind and enable your diet and exercise to benefit you the most. Always keep in your mind and also tell your clients that early to bed and early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

If, on the other hand, you do not keep a fix routine for your exercise, diet and sleep, you will deprive yourself of all these benefits. Then, all your clients will also do all this randomly without a definite time table. They will think this is perhaps the best way to do so because their professional guide or coach is also doing the same.

5.   Be Passionate but Patient

Fitness professionals that are passionate and love what they do are likely to draw in more clients, and be a much more influential figure. If you’re passionate it will resonate, creating a ripple effect and filling others with the same passion. However, make sure not to get carried away – the love you have for what you do might not come so naturally to others!

A lot of people struggle to step out of their comfort zone and try something new, and so it can be a slow process. With patience, however, comes great reward! Similarly, if a client feels you’re angry or disappointed with their progress, they’ll feel that way too. Keep it positive and they’ll keep coming back.

It’s simple really, no matter where your clients start in life, leading by example can provide them with just the inspiration they need. If you can do it, so can they… right? Otherwise, things will not work your way as a true fitness professional.
